Abstract

The phenomenon of light diffraction is widely studied in physics, being observed in real situations such as holograms, rainbows, or even in the color pattern that appear on a CD. In this work we propose the use of a simple experimental apparatus, built with low-cost materials, to help teachers and students in the teaching and learning process of light diffraction. For this, we determined the thickness of a copper wire from the width of the diffraction fringes as a function of the distance from the obstacle to the bulkhead. The results show that proposed apparatus allows the study of physical concepts related to light diffraction, as well as the application for calculating the diameter of the wire.
