Abstract

The objective was study aspects of the germination and fruits, seeds and seedlings morphology of sabia. For the study fruit characteristics were observed: color, size, texture and consistency of the pericarp, dehiscence, and number of seeds per fruit. The observed aspects for the seeds were: color, dimensions, weight of 1000 seeds, texture and tegument consistency; shape, edge and hilum and micropyle position; embryo (shape, position and type); and endosperm. The characteristics for the seedlings were: root, stem, hypocotyl, cotyledons, epicotyls and foliage leaves. To characterize the germination was set up germination tests to assess the % germination and germination rate (IVG), considering the seed position in the fruit. The sabia fruits presented in the vegetable articles form, indehiscent, formed by a craspedium sequence. The seeds vary oblong the orbicular, hard and smooth glossy surface with U-shaped pleurogram. The seedling complete their formation at 21 days of germination, and this epigeous with 88.1% germination and IVG of 9.2. The seed position in the fruit does not interfere of the % germination, IVG and dry weight of seedlings.
