Abstract

The present work consists of a bibliometric study on the use of experimentation as an educational tool for teaching science, taking into account aspects such as the frequency of scientific production of works that address this topic in journals indexed on the platform of the Coordination for the Improvement of Personnel of Higher Level (CAPES). Therefore, five descriptors were selected for the search (experimentation, scientific education, experimentation in teaching and experimental activity). The period of publications comprised between 2010 and 2020. All articles in Portuguese and open access that discussed or presented experimentation in Science Teaching in basic education were included in the scope of the research, which were read in full. A total of forty articles were analyzed where a greater citation of didactic experimental investigative sequences was observed, being possible to identify that most of them presented a very superficial level in relation to the investigative processes. In addition, there is a clear requirement that experimentation not only be seen as a practical activity in science teaching, but as a possibility of building new knowledge, based on theories that have already been scientifically validated.
