Nutrition and healthy eating in science classes: Perceptions of students of the 8th grade level

Abstract

This research involved an analysis of spontaneous conceptions of students in the 8th year of elementary school nutrition and healthy eating and also the level of knowledge acquired by them in science classes in relation to the theme, considering their contribution to the development healthy eating habits. We used a methodology based on qualitative research, with questionnaires and observation of the school ambience. The results highlighted the following aspects: separation of scientific knowledge into students' ideas; prevalence of alternative concepts from the social environment and media reports. It was concluded that,
in the schools surveyed, although there is a lag in science teaching, and therefore the approach of nutrition and food issues, and less the domain of knowledge by students, although this is important for making positive attitudes and conscious about their eating and health.
