This study aimed to evaluate the possible interference of the construction process of the Cana Brava hydroelectric power plant (HPP) in cases of morbidity in the municipalities of Cavalcante, Colinas do Sul and Minaçu, which comprises its direct influence area. We considered the data related to the morbidity conditions and the land use profile of the three municipalities. The analyzed information were extracted from the existing official sources, System of Information of Notifiable Diseases (SINAN), National Institute for Space Research (INPE), the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Project of Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity (PROBIO), and the consulting company Naturae. The data analysis was carried out by the statistical test of Covariance (ANCOVA). The municipality of Cavalcante presented increasing morbidity rates from 1995 to 2006, with a drop in 2007. The municipality of Colinas do Sul presented morbidity rated compatible with the decrease of the population between 1995 and 1997. Minaçu presented, from 1995 to 1998, morbidity rates below the population growth, increasing in the following years. Beside these data, the occurrenceof 982 cases of dengue in Minaçu, two cases of Dengue in Cavalcante and eight cases in Colinas do Sul was detected. The land use profile shows the intensification of agricultural activities over the years in the three municipalities studied. Considering the factors discussed, it is suggested that the implementation of the Cana Brava hydroelectric plant might have influenced the occurrence of morbidities in municipalities in its area of direct influence.
