Health promotion in schools: a study of high school teachers

With the aim of to analyze how the teachers of high school conceive the teaching of issues related to health, were interviewed six teachers of high school of a public school in a municipality of the Northwest of Rio Grande do Sul, who responded to a semi-structured interview. The information was interpreted from the content analysis. The results showed a concept health linked, mainly, the individual characteristics and behaviors of the person. The main strategies/actions of teaching used were classes expository dialogued and videos and search on the internet. The environment where the school was inserted, the neglect of parents relative for the health of their children and the lack of specific knowledge of the subject emerged as the main difficulties faced by teachers for the teaching this subject. The most of teachers said hadn`t preparation, in initial formation, for the teaching of health in school and the that had claimed have been insufficient, but still addressed issues that were of interest of the students besides the hygiene and the social relationships. It was observed that the teachers of high school of the studied school need of a specific and more qualification in relation the practice of practice of school health, since the health is one of themes cross-cutting emerging in our society should therefore be contemplated in the contents of all disciplines that should provide experiences conducive to a healthy life.
