Abstract

Anthropogenic impacts in natural environments lead to a reduction of the biological diversity. In order to warrant sustainable use of natural resources and preserve them to future generations, it is important to evaluate and monitor temporal use and occupation of the soil. This study evaluated soil use and occupation in Mata do Junco, a wild life reserve, through the use of orbital images. It was observed a reduction in the remnant vegetation areas due to increasing urbanization as well as expansion of the agricultural activities, which contributed to a loss of biodiversity and environmental quality.
