Epidemiological Profile of Oral Disease at Dental Specialties Center (DSC) of Itabaiana, Sergipe, Brazil

Abstract

Oral health is directly related to the inclusion of citizens in the social environment, good aesthetics and communicability. Epidemiological studies show that caries and periodontal diseases in the population reached significant numbers. In our study, we aimed to assess the incidence and prevalence of oral diseases at Dental Specialties Center (DSC) of Itabaiana, Sergipe. We analyzed 150 records in a descriptively way. The results show that 35.3% of the patients were men and women corresponded to 64.4% of cases, 15.30% were situated between 16-20 years old, 26-30 12.60% and 11.30% had between 6 -10 years. Of the 199 cases of pathologies found, caries was observed in 46.73% of the records analyzed. Periodontitis and gingivitis were found in 9% and 13.56% respectively. We conclude that the number of women seeking the services of dental care in the Dental Specialties Center stands greatly the number of men. Moreover, among the cases analyzed, caries was the most incident oral disease.
