Indicator of the quality of sediments Piancó river, Anápolis-Go and their environment implications

The sediments are formed by mineral particles and organic matter that is transported or deposited in water bodies. Processes derived from anthropogenic industrial and urban activities are responsible for input loads of toxic elements in surface waters of watersheds, and can affect the quality of the sediments. The pellets can store chemical species, or else act as a secondary source of pollution, by the availability of contaminants to the system. The present study aims to evaluate the quality of the surface sediments of the Piancó, GO river and its implications for the environment. In this sense, we determined the concentrations of minor constituents Cu, Zn, Co, Ni, Cr that allowed the calculation of the contamination factor (CF) and geoaccumulation index (Igeo) of river sediment. The results indicated that the bottom sediments, pollution indicators are rated between 0 and 2, corresponding to the intensities "practically non-polluted" and "moderate polluted", respectively. For the contamination factor the trace elements Cu, Ni and Cr showed no such significant contrasts when compared with for the control point (P01). The collection of this information becomes possible to obtain complementary tools that allow the process of environmental management.Downloads
