Abstract

Computed tomography dosimetric protocol is been considered overdue, mainly for multislice computed tomography and body phantoms. The pencil ionization chamber and phantoms made with polymethyl methacrylate actually used in CT dosimetry are considered inadequate for new features of the computed tomography beams, because the big width of the radiation dose profile generated by multi-slice scans. Therefore, new dosimetric procedures, dosimeters and phantoms are necessary. Thus, this work had the objective compare a cylindrical ionization chamber of small volume with CaSO4:Dy thermoluminescents dosimeters for measurements of dosimetrics quantities in a single-slice CT. Also, phantoms made with different materials of the polymethyl methacrylate were analyzed. The energy-dependence of CaSO4:Dy TLDs is a limiting factor in CT dosimetry. The dosimetric comparison between water phantom and acrylic phantom showed that the percentage difference does not increase more than 9%.
