Abstract

The hematological and biochemical parameters may vary between strains and different strains of a given species and also according to the method of blood collection. Thus, it is essential to establish reference values for animals obtained from different bioteries according to species, diet, strain, sex and age. Healthy Wistar rats (150-200g) of both genders were used. The hematological profile (leucocytes: total and differential, red blood cells, hemoglobin, hematocrit, some hematological indexes and platelets) and biochemical determination of various constituents (aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, total protein, globulin, albumin, glucose, creatinine, urea, total cholesterol, triglycerides, uric acid, potassium and sodium) were determined. Thus, this study aimed to determine reference values for hematological and biochemical parameters of untreated animals from the CentralBiotery at the Federal University Sergipe.
