Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the effect of edible coatings in agroecological avocado post-harvest conservation with the use of carnauba wax and propolis extract under ambient condition. We evaluated the effects of the application of edible coatings in various agroecological avocado post-harvest behavior stored under ambient conditions for 12 days. The fruits were analyzed for physical and chemical characteristics: fresh weight loss (%), pulp yield (%), titratable acidity (%), soluble solids (°Brix), SS/TA and pH. The design was a randomized block in split plot in time, using the treatments: control; carnauba wax (100 %); alcoholic and aqueous extract of propolis (30%), with four replications and four fruits per plot. There was less loss of fresh fruit weight with application of aqueous and alcoholic extract of propolis (30%) and carnauba wax (100%) from the fourth day of storage when compared to the control. The fruits of the control treatment had higher soluble solids content did not differ from treatment and aqueous alcoholic extract of propolis (30%), with average values of 9.32 and 8.76 ° Brix, respectively. As for the pH, it was the highest average for fruit treated with carnauba wax, and aqueous alcoholic extract of propolis (30%), with mean values 6.52, 6.41 and 6.23, respectively. From the results, it was concluded that the treatments to carnauba wax base (100%) and alcohol and aqueous extract of propolis (30%) were more effective in the fresh weight of post-harvest conservation of fruit in the sixth day storage.
