Use of gliricidia (Gliricidia sepium) in animal production in Sustainable Agricutural Systems

Abstract

This paper aims to present the different experiences obtained from the use of Gliricídia (Gliricidia sepium) in Agricultural Systems Sustainable focusing mainly on their use in the production of forage for ruminant in semi-arid regions, to meet the protein nutritional requirements low production cost. The gliricídia was used in the implementation of 22 Agricultural Sustainable Systems, distributed in 12 municipalities in the Territory Wasteland Alagoas and Sergipe State in 10 municipalities, were 6 was located in the High Wilderness Sergipe. We opted for the production of gliricídia through preparation of seedlings, followed by transplantation to reach 50 days or about 20 inches tall. The seedlings were transplanted into pits with depth compatible with the height of the bags where they were produced, deploying them in double rows to consortium arrangements with grains and roots, or in a dense arrangement for protein bank training. In both arrangements, gliricídia was implemented in order to serve as a food supplement in the diet of dairy cattle and sheep, providing significant increase in milk production and fattening of lambs and were reported increases in grain production, roots and development of cactus. The results were obtained based on the statements of the producers who had access to technology and training around the same. Based on various statements, whether it was concluded that the location where the system was implemented, Gliricidia sepium had a good development, acceptance and notorious, and increase the high production of forage nutritional value at low cost, the increase occurred in the animal production by providing it to complement the diet of animals.
