Use of ultrasound for the diagnosis of mucometra in goat treated with PGF2a

Abstract

In goat production currently, milk production is very important. The intense reproductive requirement of these animals in the production, makes reproduction diseases one great problem. Some authors claim that the mucometra cause economic losses in the breed of small ruminants because usually occurs during the breeding season, leading to lower conception rates. Ultrasound is an important tool for visualization of the reproductive tract, allowing the diagnosis of early pregnancy, as well as identifying some diseases, such as mucometra. When visiting a dairy goat house for pregnancy diagnosis, Saanen nulliparous with 15 months was evaluated. When performing ultrasound in the inguinal region, anechoic content was observed in large quantities in the uterus as well as mobile trabeculae inside. The treatment was application of 20 mg / kg of PGF2a intramuscularly, in order to promote lysis of the corpus luteum, the opening of the cervix and uterine contraction and releasing the contents present in the uterus. It was administered PGF2 and 56 hours later there was releasing intrauterine content. Animal showed signs of estrus 72 hours later and it was placed with the male to main of breeding. The use of ultrasound helps identify certain reproductive disorders, reducing the calving interval improving productivity.
