Abstract

The use of growth regulators is the most efficient practice in the control of the cotton plant canopy, allowing mechanized harvest and higher yields. Thus, the aim of, with this work was to evaluate the morphological and physiological changes in cotton depending on application of Paclobutrazol. The experiment was conducted from February to May 2013 in a greenhouse at the Universidade Estadual do Sudoeste da Bahia - UESB campus of Vitoria da Conquista - Bahia. The experimental design was a
randomized complete block design with four replications, comprising four doses of paclobutrazol and control (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 g ai ha- 1). The application of the growth regulator occurred when the plants
were 20-25 cm long stem, with a CO2 pressurized backpack sprayer (2 kgf. cm-2). Stem diameter, number of leaves, leaf area, SPAD index, number of flower buds and root dry weight , stem and leaves at 30 days
after application: The following variables were evaluated . For data analysis, the analysis of variance test was used and when significant polynomial regression was applied. It was found that the Paclobutrazol
resulted in increasing steps for all variables except the number of flower buds. The dose range considered optimal for growth was between doses of 50 and 55 g a.i. ha-1.
