Abstract

The decrease in productivity of cashew in Brazil and the increased market demand for the quality of their products lead to the necessity to understand and evaluate the genetic base available to enhance the selection of superior clones. The aim of this work was to assess the genetic diversity among clones of the Germplasm Bank of cashew using RAPD markers. The smallest genetic distance was observed among clones CJ5 (AO) and CJ9 (T1C18) and the higher between CJ1 (BRS226) and CJ17 (P2O1). The percentage of polymorphism was 94.75%, indicating high genetic variability among the clones evaluated. RAPD markers were efficient in the molecular characterization of the cashew tree, being able to measure the genetic variability among clones and pre-selection of groups using UPGMA and PCoA methods.
