Economic feasibility of production of vegetables in homegardens.

The objective was to study the economic feasibility of organic products in homegardens in the area of family farming in Pueblo angry, Itabaiana UP. 7 species were evaluated with complete cycles in one year, the products used were: lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.), eggplant (Solanum melogena), chives (Allium pisfulosum), parsley (Petroselinum sativum), coriander (Coriandrum sativum L .), cabbage (Brassica oleracea L.), pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) intercropping with Gliricidia (Gliricidia sepium). For the estimation of seasonal price indexes, use has been made of the method with arithmetic Mobile centralized in 12 months. For the economic evaluation, we used the following criteria: a Benefit-Cost Ratio (RB/C), the Net Present Value (VLP), Internal Rate of Return (TIR), using discount rates of 6%, 9% and 10 %. The results suggested economic viability only in the short term, leaving doubts about the viability in other horizons, needing somehow, changes in management and project planning, prioritizing technological changes that may increase the profitability of the activity in the area of organic production. Given the presented, we conclude that organic systems can be characterized as an alternative to family farming, enabling improved quality of life and adding value to rural property and meeting the expectations of society for a healthy, conservation and generation employment.Downloads
