This study aimed to determine the financial value that the population of the city of Palmeira, State of Piauí, is prepared to pay for the area "Olho d’agua da chuva” was preserved using the Contingent Valuation Method. Specifically, we sought to relate this willingness to pay to the profile of the interviewee, with the environmental importance of the area, and with the degree of knowledge of respondents on environmental awareness. We used the contingent valuation method, which allows to obtain estimates of values of environmental attributes, and that best fits the region. The population has been concerned with preserving the environment, because the changes are already visible that the area has suffered over time, which increases the willingness to pay is that in 92% of respondents are willing to contribute to the said area be preserved. While everyone has an awareness that we need to preserve, few participate or contribute in environmental actions that are performed in the city. It was also noted that this work contributes to the conservation of the city and other surrounding communities.Downloads
