Tuberculosis is a disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which affects primarily the lungs. Epidemiological pulmonary tuberculosis (TBP) cases recorded in the Information System for Recorded Diseases (SINAN) between 2006 and 2009 in São Gonçalo city were analyzed. A descriptive observational epidemiological study was performed, where data on quantitative and qualitative variables from epidemiological data on TBP recorded in SINAN were presented and analyzed using absolute frequency and percentages and incidence coefficient. During the period 2006-2009, 216 TBP cases were confirmed and reported in SINAN, three of which in 2006, 33 in 2007, 66 in 2008 and 114 in 2009. There was an annual increase of reported cases. However, this increase may mean further spread of the disease in the municipality and/or the expansion of coverage of records in SINAN. The results allowed knowing the characteristics of the reported TBP cases and evaluating, indirectly, the limitations of the Tuberculosis Control Program of the municipal health service.Downloads
