Adaptability and development of cultivars of lettuce in the Brejo microregion, Paraiba

The lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) is the most important hardwood in vegetable diet of the Brazilian population, due to its nutritional value and is consumed mainly in the form of salad. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of eight varieties of lettuce in the Brejo conditions in Paraiba. Soil samples were collected in the 0-20 cm topsoil of the experimental area for physical. Composite samples were collected from the compost pile for analysis of chemical and fertility. The foundation of fertilization was performed uniformly across the floor area, applying a dose of 40,000 L.ha-1, seven days before transplanting. The seeds for the production of seedlings were purchased in the local market, which are produced in a greenhouse environment and sown in trays (128 cells) using only organic compound as a substrate. The conformation adopted spacing for plants in the field was quicônica spaced 35x35 cm. We used randomized block design with eight treatments of lettuce cultivars in four replications, totaling 32 experimental units. The varieties Rainha de Maio, Crespa Grand Rapids TBR and Americana delícia,have adapted to the environmental conditions of Brejo microregion and was recommended for cultivation in the region. Cultivars Simpson, Mimosa Rubi, Romana de Paris, Regina de Verão and Baba de Verão did not show favorable agronomic characteristics according to the conditions of the study.
