In the Name of the Catholic Faith: The Creation of the Colégio Santa Teresinha

The scene of the education of Sergipe in the first half of century XX was marked by the creation ofconfessional colleges catholics. The creation of these colleges is understood as a strategy catholic tocontain the advance of the Protestantism in Brazil, as well as to offer to the children of the families ofresources an education catholic. Amongst the colleges created in this period the College has beendistinguished Teresinha Saint, established in the city of Boquim- for the Priest Jose Gumercindo Santos,who objectified to revitalize the great mission educator and to evangelize of the Church Catholic bymeans of the education of youth. This work is part of the research of the master’s degree, in progress, andhas as objective to understand the creation of the Teresinha Saint College in way the actions of theChurch Catholic in the sergipana education. Using itself of the theoretical and methodological principlesof Cultural History, this work analyzed written sources and prays.Downloads
