Bird fauna of the ‘restingas’ remnant complex along the urban expansion zone of Aracaju, Sergipe

The main goal of this study was to provide a list of bird species recorded along the ‘restingas’ remnant complex (dunes field, lagoons and drainage areas and shrubs formations) present at the urban expansion area of Aracaju. Throughout the years 2008-2011 we conducted no-systematics surveys using the points and active search observations procedures to get information about the bird fauna species. Surveys resulted in an identification of 136 species of birds. The Tyrannidae Family presented the largest number of representatives (11 species), we also highlight the record of waterbirds species formed by the families Ardeidae (nine species), Anatidae (seven species) e Rallidae (six species). Despite being an area with increasing degradation of its original condition, restingas remnants at the urban expansion area of Aracaju presents a considerable richeness of bird species which needs to be better explored. There are still many studies to be conducted in order to understand local bird community as well as to identify species which has already presented trends of population decline.Downloads
