Synthesis of zeolite A from a new occurrence of kaolin in the region of Bom Jardim de Goiás-GO
Keywords:

This work proposes the synthesis of zeolite A, using as source of silicon and aluminum a clay mineral from the region of Bom Jardim de Goiás, GO. The collected samples were chacterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray fluorescence. The results showed that material is kaolinite, with presence of illite and quartz. This material was subjected to heat treatment in order to obtain metakaolin. Then, the synthesis was carried out under hydrothermal conditions in a solution of NaOH at 4,0 mol L-1 for 3 hours at 75 °C. The diffractograms of the synthesized materials showed a typical crystalline structure of zeolite A, in the photomicrographs was observed the presence of characteristic cubic crystals. The infrared absorption spectrum showed characteristic bands at 453, 554, and 657 cm-1. The average of the calculated molar ratio of SiO2/Al2O3 and Na2O/SiO2 were 1.226 and 0.334 respectively.Downloads
