Application of simulation and ergonomic techniques to the UHT milk cartons palletization process: a case study

Abstract

This work aimed at to analyze operational dynamics of palletization process of UHT milk cartons, through simulation and ergonomics techniques. A model like the dynamic, discrete and stochastic type was implemented in the simulation software Arena®. The simulation results showed that the process is well planned, because it was not possible to identify significant lines among the stages. However, the palletizing activity showed high ergonomic risk, with a survey index of cartons superior to the maximum allowed value. The solution was to propose improvements, through the installation of equipment, that help the work and that are economically viable. In this case, it is believed that the pantograph table is the best option.
