Natural resistance of the wood of two Amazonian species into field tests

This study aimed to evaluate the natural resistance of marupá (Simarouba amara) and jequitibá (Cariniana micrantha) wood in field tests. For this purpose, 30 specimens of each Amazonian wood, with reduced dimensions of 1 x 2.5 x 20 cm (thickness, width and length, respectively), were submitted to field tests in two environments: open field and forest. Periodically, every 30 days during 150 days, the specimens were weighed and evaluated by a criterion of notes, to determine the percentage of mass loss and decay index, respectively. Furthermore, was determined the decay susceptibility index of jequitibá wood compared marupá wood. About the results highlights that marupá wood showed greater weight loss compared to jequitibá wood. However when considered the decay index was not significant statistical difference. About environmental deterioration, two Amazonian species showed lower natural resistance when submitted in open field. Decay susceptibility index of jequitibá wood did not differ as to the environment deterioration.Downloads
