Abstract

Adenanthera pavonina L. is an species largely utilized for ornamental purposes, streets and squares afforestation, resforestation, handicraft and phytotherapeutic medicines, but their seeds, like most legumes, present dormancy. Thus, the present work aimed evaluate the efficience of concentrate sulfuric acid to overcome dormancy on Adenanthera pavonina L. seeds. For that, was evaluated the period of immersion (0 1, 2, 3, 5, 10 and 20 min.) at sulfuric acid (98%) on seed emergency and vigor (first count, speed index, mean time, and mean speed of emergency). The treatments of immersion in concentrate sulfuric acid for 10 and 20 minutes were the most efficient in breaking the dormancy of this specie, promoting larger results on emergency and vigor.
