Some tree species are capable of producing seeds with seed coat dormancy or physiological, which enables them to germinate in the most conducive to its development. This feature is quite noticeable in the Caatinga biome, where water resources are scarce and to maintain the perpetuity of the species, some plants use the artifice of dormancy. The Vachellia farnesiana (L.) Wight & Arn. is a tree species that occurs throughout the country. Its seeds were stored for subsequent germination in the laboratory, after ten months of storage, pre-germination tests carried out by assessing the potential germination, first counting, germination speed index to three different treatments to overcome dormancy these being: untreated (control), mechanical scarification with sandpaper to wood no. 120, opposite the hilum and seed immersion in 5% sulfuric acid for 5 minutes, making mechanical scarification obtained the best result for stored seeds of V. farnesiana.Downloads
